Seattle Surge had an excellent run at the last Call of Duty League Major. They lost to Toronto Ultra in the first round but then picked up two commanding victories against Minnesota R?KKR and Carolina Royal Ravens before getting eliminated by the New York Subliners.

In their series against Toronto Ultra, the Surge showed some good things. Their performances on Control and Hardpoint were solid, whereas Search & Destroy still needs some work.

Toronto Ultra finished runners-up at CDL 2024 Major 3, which is a nice improvement on their fourth-place finish in Major 2. Still, the Ultra should have shown more in the grand final, where they lost to OpTic Texas 0-4 after beating them 3-1 two days prior.

This might suggest that Toronto Ultra lack some consistency, which could prevent them from winning the championship. But online, they’ve looked good — and especially against weaker teams, Toronto Ultra rarely blunder.

Boston Breach crashed out of CDL 2024 Major 3 in the first round in a classic Boston Breach fashion. They faced Los Angeles Thieves and played a competitive series but lost game five, which is something we’ve come to expect of this team.

Shortly after their early exit from the Major, the Breach added Michael “MajorManiak” Szymaniak to the lineup as a replacement for Nathaniel “Pentagrxm” Thomas, but this change might’ve come a bit too late.

Minnesota R?KKR, like the Breach, didn’t manage to make it past the first round at the recent Major, with a 1-3 loss to Seattle Surge. They have looked serviceable on Search & Destroy, but they’ve been abysmal on respawns, where they’re 4-17 — which isn’t enough to achieve any solid placement, either online or on LAN.

These are both very flawed teams, and while Boston Breach might look better with MajorManiak, this isn’t a good enough reason to believe they’ll have an easy time on Friday. Expect a scrappy affair.

Los Angeles Guerrillas placed dead last at CDL 2024 Major 3 with a first-round defeat against Carolina Royal Ravens. On top of that, they’re also notoriously bad online.

It’s a tough spot to be in for the Guerrillas, who have looked in the mix at points in this season. But it was only a matter of time before their online form was reflected on LAN, and without any roster changes, their situation likely won’t improve anytime soon.

Carolina Royal Ravens have shown some improvement over the last month, with a sixth-place finish in CDL 2024 Major 3 Qualifiers and a top-eight on LAN. They’ve still yet to show anything great against top contenders, but the Royal Ravens have consistently beat lesser CoD esports teams and regularly take maps off top squads.

It’s difficult to feel overly optimistic about Los Angeles Guerrillas, and while they might muster up one map, anything more seems highly unlikely.

Both sides belong in this stage’s bottom tier, and there aren’t many reasons to feel optimistic about the Royal Ravens. Yet there are even fewer reasons to back Minnesota R?KKR in this contest.

The Royal Ravens have had a few decent showings over the first four weeks. They took Search & Destroy from FaZe and nearly won on Hardpoint last week, having done the exact same thing against Toronto Ultra earlier in the stage.

Even though the Royal Ravens have many things to work on, they’ve shown some glimpses of greatness. The same can’t be said for Minnesota R?KKR, who have so far played only one decent game — a reverse sweep against LA Thieves in Week 3.

Their Control is solid, but Toronto Ultra look very weak on Search & Destroy and Hardpoint. Teams go through rough patches on game modes, so Ultra’s slump doesn’t mean they’re out of the elite four teams in CDL. But they have a lot of work to do to regain the respect they earned in Major 1.

Toronto Ultra are at their lowest point of the 2024 CDL esports season and they’re set to play Carolina Royal Ravens, who have shown immense improvement. The underdogs can easily take the Search & Destroy map, and if we see Rio – Hardpoint, things can quickly get out of hand for Ultra.

Los Angeles Thieves navigated through a tough schedule in the previous split well, but their strong run came to a stop in the second round of the Major when LA Thieves lost to Los Angeles Guerrillas. That small slip-up on LAN doesn’t mean much as Thieves have been performing well online.

So far in CDL 2024 Major 3 Qualifiers, Los Angeles Thieves have won two five-map series against Las Vegas Legion and Miami Heretics. This might not seem too good, but the Thieves played better than what the final scores suggest, and have been slowly improving over the last couple of months.

Minnesota R?KKR are 1-2 in CDL 2024 Major 3 Qualifiers, with defeats against Atlanta FaZe and New York Subliners and one victory against the shaky Boston Breach. Those results don’t prove much, but there are a few things we can take from the three series.

Minnesota R?KKR’s Search & Destroy is decent, Control is lacking, and Hardpoint is not too bad. The eye test proves that Minnesota R?KKR have some potential, and they already accomplished plenty in the second split. But we have to see more from Minnesota R?KKR before trusting them to defeat the surging Los Angeles Thieves.

Since that defeat, the R?KKR have managed just one victory. But they had a rough schedule and exceeded expectations by beating Boston Breach on Sunday thanks to clutch performances from Eli “Standy” Bentz and Thomas “Lynz” Gregorio on Search & Destroy.

Los Angeles Guerrillas did well at the recent Major. But they’re 0-3 ahead of this match with defeats against Toronto Ultra, Las Vegas Legion, and the Carolina Royal Ravens, once again proving they don’t do well online.

Miami Heretics and Minnesota R?KKR look fairly even. Heretics have a better map record on Hardpoint (12-11) than R?KKR (12-17) and have performed better on Search & Destroy with 8-11 compared to 10-14. R?KKR have a better record on Control with 10-7 to 7-8.

This could be a close game, but Miami Heretics shouldn’t be priced as underdogs.

Los Angeles Thieves have found some traction recently and are 3-2 ahead of the final week of CDL 2024 Major 2 Qualifiers. However, they’ve only beaten Miami Heretics, Minnesota R?KKR and Las Vegas Legion, so they might not be ready to face Toronto Ultra head-on.

Toronto Ultra lost to OpTic Texas on Sunday, when they won Hardpoints but got humiliated on Control and both Search & Destroy maps with a combined record of 1-15. That loss highlighted Toronto Ultra’s map pool problem with Search & Destroy, which Los Angeles Thieves could take advantage of.

The two Search & Destroy maps Toronto Ultra lost against OpTic were Karachi and Terminal, which happen to be two maps the Thieves are good on. So, there is a reason to believe the Thieves can do some damage.

Even on Control, Toronto Ultra aren’t great, so it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that the Thieves do some serious damage on Saturday.

OpTic Texas dismantled Los Angeles Thieves on Sunday. The only somewhat close game was Invasion – Control, where LA Thieves won two maps, but OpTic never seemed to be in danger of losing the series. This continues OpTic Texas’s solid showings from CDL 2024 Stage 1, where they had a few stinkers, but still proved themselves as one of the top-three teams in the league.

Minnesota R?KKR lost against Toronto Ultra this weekend but won two maps and had their chances to win the series. Things didn’t work out in the end, with a 0-6 loss on Search & Destroy – Invasion; however, R?KKR showed a good fight against the league’s top dogs, which counts for something.

Minnesota R?KKR are in a great spot form-wise, their respawns are solid, and they’re one of the top Control teams in the league. Even though OpTic Texas will be tough to beat, the R?KKR have the tools to do well.

Miami Heretics had a rough showing against Atlanta FaZe and Toronto Ultra last weekend, dropping the series 1-3 and 0-3. Despite losing to FaZe and Ultra, Miami Heretics have shown the ability to compete with other strong teams. However, they’re on a four-game losing streak, which includes a 0-3 loss against Las Vegas Legion in CDL 2024 Major 1 a month ago.

The Legion defeated Los Angeles Guerrillas on Sunday, but they didn’t perform well. The Vegas side came one point short of losing Control and closed out the series with 250-236 on Hardpoint – Rio. A win is a win, but showing struggles against the league’s worst team isn’t a good look.

Miami Heretics have looked fairly decent this season. They are 3-2, with defeats against Seattle Surge and Boston Breach. Losing two games might not mean much; however, we have to note that Miami Heretics’ three wins came against the bottom teams.

Los Angeles Guerrillas have outperformed expectations in the CDL Major 1 Qualifier. Even though they’re 2-3, the Guerrillas played well last week against Atlanta FaZe and Boston Breach. The Guerrillas have posted similar results as Heretics, but they had to play much tougher opponents.

Esports betting sites have Los Angeles Guerrillas priced as favourites, which is fair. But considering Miami Heretics haven’t shown much against stronger teams, the price gap should probably be even bigger.

Much like the case with OpTic, a couple of poor showings don’t make Miami Heretics a weak team. They’ve shown some flashes of greatness so far this season and can be competitive on a good day.

The problem with Miami Heretics is that they’ve not played any good teams, so everything they’ve shown should be taken with a grain of salt.

New York Subliners won both matches last week against Minnesota R?KKR and the Los Angeles Thieves, beating both teams with two maps to spare. The Subliners performed well in both matches, but there are a few things to note about this squad.

Despite being very effective on Search & Destroy, Subliners’ respawns need some work. And that’s something Toronto Ultra could take advantage of on Friday.

Toronto Ultra are 4-1 after three rounds of action, with two wins from last week against the Seattle Surge and Los Angeles Thieves. In both series, Toronto Ultra looked solid on respawns; however, they aren’t nearly as good on Search & Destroy, creating an interesting situation between the two CDL teams.

CoD esports betting sites have Toronto Ultra priced as favourites, which might not sound wrong, but at $1.72, they’re way too short. Subliners at even money or better are a wiser choice.

Even in the two losses, Seattle Surge performed well and came close to posting much better results. That doesn’t make them one of the top favourites to win the first CDL Major, but Seattle Surge has shown enough to prove they can compete with the best.

Toronto Ultra looked unstoppable in their wins against LA Guerrillas and Carolina Royal Ravens but then got humiliated by Boston Breach on the final day of the Week 2 qualifiers. Off-games like that are fairly typical for Toronto Ultra, but this doesn’t change the fact that they’re still one of the elite teams.

The Surge should be priced as underdogs for this match due to Toronto Ultra’s high ceiling, but it’s tough to imagine a blowout win for Tobias “CleanX” J?nsson and his crew. This should be an entertaining series that can easily go the distance.

Minnesota R?KKR ended the first two rounds of CDL Major 1 Qualifiers without a single win. They lost against Las Vegas Legion and OpTic Texas in the first week and added another rough 1-3 defeat against Miami Heretics in Week 2.

The game against Miami Heretics was close, but that’s no excuse for R?KKR’s poor execution on the day. Minnesota R?KKR will struggle to accomplish much on Friday unless they improve.

New York Subliners are 3-0 ahead of the third week of CDL Major 1 Qualifiers, after wins against OpTic Texas, Los Angeles Guerrillas, and Las Vegas Legion. Their schedule over the first two weeks wasn’t very challenging, but it’s tough to find any flaws in the Subliners’ games.

There’s a good reason why esports betting sites have New York Subliners priced as heavy favourites, and it’s difficult to argue with them.

Minnesota R?KKR Academy star player initially signed to Minnesota ROKKR as a substitute last July. The team’s new lineup consists of Fame, Marcus “Afro” Reid, Cameron “Cammy” McKilligan, and Ben “Bance” Bance.

Minnesota ROKKR ended their run in CDL Major 2 in third place; however, they had a significantly tougher time in Major 3. The team went 0-6 in the Qualifiers and Finals of the event, failing to win a single map against LA Thieves in the first round.

While most of the team’s fans recognized that some changes needed to be made, Attach’s substitution surprised most. For the past three years, the Minnesota ROKKR have built a team around the impressive player who became their face after the Black Ops Cold War.

Attach ended 2022 with the third-best KD in the league at 1.20 and secured a CDL All-Star second-team acknowledgment. The player showed he was not just impressive on paper when in 2015, at just 18, he became the youngest gamer to win a CoD World Championship.

Attach has consistently given impressive performances over the years and maintained the joint-highest K/D on his squad during Major 3. He still held the lead on kills per 10 minutes despite changing his playstyle to be slower.

Attach’s replacement, Fame enters the CDL lineup with the cumbersome task of trying to fill in the big shoes the famous player left and attempting to help Minnesota ROKKR get back on track. He will take over the flex role on the team while Cameron “Cammy” McKilligan takes up Attach’s previous position as the main AR.

Fame joined the Minnesota ROKKR academy roster early this year and has recorded his share of success. The player notably placed first in the Challengers Elite Stage 1 playoffs and second in both Boston Open and Texas Open.

In the announcement video, Minnesota R?KKR coaches Brian “Saintt” Baroska and Daniel “Loony” Loza explained their reason for benching Attach in favor of Fame. Saintt referred to the Academy player as an “incredible” gamer with a great mind for the game, prompting the decision.

The coach also said Fame would be a perfect addition to help the team do dirty work like block spawns and pick uphill time.

“There were times where everyone was trying to do too much on the map and I think with Kev, we are going to have a lot more freedom for players like Cam and Marcus to run around and do what they want,” Saintt said.

The Minnesota R?KKR currently holds the eighth spot in the CDL Point standing and is 20 points ahead of Vegas Legion, who is placed ninth. Only the top eight teams will be able to earn places in the CoD Champs when the year concludes, so every single match from now will be a decisive game to Minnesota R?KKR.

Loony stated that the team would decide if further changes were necessary to secure their qualification after their performance in the Home Series and CDL Stage 4.

Fame will debut with the main team on April 1 in their first qualifier game for Major Four.
